After an unbelievably hot April week of being unable to source any Vegan ice creams/lollies in our local Co-op due to the shelves being completely cleared, whilst I was out on Saturday afternoon I was determined to pick up some cool-me-down treats. I ended up in Aldi where I knew they would usually stock some nice Calippo (sorry Calippo, I still love you!) style ice lollies. I did pick some of these up too but whilst on the hunt for them my 5yo daughter (who, as anyone who has or has had a 5yo will know very well, reads absolutely anything and every word she can see) pointed out the ‘Coconut Water’ ice lollies and practically begged me to get them. Got to say, when she was nagging me for these over the ‘Cola’ flavoured ones, I was a pretty happy Daddy!

Needless to say they didn’t last long in our freezer as she chose one at every possible treat or cool down time since buying. Still, I managed to sneak a taste in to write this review.

Ingredients (no allergens!): RECONSTITUTED COCONUT WATER (60%), FRUIT JUICES FROM CONCENTRATE (18%) (Lemon, Orange, Apple, Passion Fruit, White Grape, Pineapple, Pear), Sugar, Glucose Syrup, Glucose-Fructose Syrup, FRUIT PUREE FROM CONCENTRATE (0.5%) (Banana, Mango, Apricot, Peach), Acid: Citric Acid; Stabilisers: Guar Gum, Locust Bean Gum; Flavourings, Colour: Carotenes.

Taste: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Funnily enough, very Coconutty! (if that’s a word??) You can certainly taste the exotic flavours bursting through but there is a strong taste of Coconut, as expected from a Coconut Water based product. The flavour I found the most overpowering was Passion Fruit which personally I love. Sometimes I find products with Pineapple in are overpowered by Pineapple, but not the case with these!

Texture: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Spot on, really. Nothing unexpected in this respect – not too hard that it turns to ice once you’ve sucked the flavour out for a few minutes (frozen Kwenchy Kups anyone?) but also didn’t turn to slush too quickly.

Visual appeal: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I put this rating section in more for the fake ‘meat’ products I plan to review – but the Coco Loco Ice Lollies did look good and I do get quite jealous when my daughter has one, and I’m not allowed!

Value for money: ⭐⭐

For a slightly healthier option I guess 50p per lolly isn’t too bad, it could definitely be worse! I know this product isn’t targeted directly at Vegans but it’s on the Coconut trend aimed at at the healthy eating bunch amongst us and for this we do usually end up paying a premium. Probably wouldn’t have thought twice about the price in another supermarket but when shopping in a discount chain like Aldi or Lidl it just feels weird to pay over £1 for anything – or is that just me? :’)

Final verdict: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Four stars! A tad pricey when compared with their other ice lollies of the same type, but I love exploring new flavours with my daughter so it was well worth it. And for what I thought was going to be a healthier option, they really were tasty too – I can see us returning to Aldi for more this weekend. Just look how happy I am eating them!

Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed it! Have you given these a go yet? I’d love to hear your comments!
